Carved + Cast Bling Rings
In this course, intermediate to advanced students will learn how to carve a ring for a faceted or cabochon stone. Students will work in wax, and create a master from which we will create a mold. After burning out, students will heat molten metal (silver or gold) and cast it into these single use molds.
Materials fee will be assessed during class, and is based on individual student's metal choice and project requirements. We will have raw materials for purchase onsite, or you're welcome to bring your own.
Some stones will be available for purchase on site in a variety of types and sizes ($20+), or you may bring your own to work with.
NOTE: Some scraps or parts from old jewelry can be used towards your new design, although we'll need to go through your scraps on site before we cast.
TIP: avoid solder! You'll get the most from your classroom experience if you cut out solder areas before class, instead of waiting until classtime.
Prerequisite: This class is designed for students who have already familiarized themselves with the basics of metalsmithing -- having completed at least one Level One Course at MAKE MADE or equivalent experience via Make + Sip Courses or other courses taught by Danielle or Katie.
Workshop Cancellation Policy:
Due to the small class sizes and demand for each seat, if you are unable to attend a class for any reason, please notify us as soon as possible to allow another student to register for the class.
Please note, we cannot offer refunds for student cancellations, but we can offer credit to be applied toward a future workshop based on the time frame in which you have notified us of your cancellation.
Workshop cancellations are decided three days before the start date. In the rare event that MAKE MADE must cancel a workshop due to insufficient enrollment, currently enrolled students will have the option to have the entire class fee refunded or held as credit for future workshops.
